Chiropractic

Several studies have shown Chiropractic to be beneficial in cases of neck and back pain, while empirical evidence suggests that it also may help cases of headaches, nerve and arthritis problems, as well as in the co-management of systemic illnesses such as asthma, colic in children, menstrual disorders and many others- please visit the section Conditions commonly treated by Chiropractic

Contrary to many people's expectations, Chiropractic should not be a painful experience, and it actually has a very high safety record, with very few reported cases of injury from the thousands of Chiropractors that manipulate the spine daily. Nevertheless, there are many "non-manipulative" techniques that are used on babies, the elderly, or patients with inflamed discs. Patients who are at a clinically perceivable risk of injury are never manipulated. Please visit the page What is Chiropractic? for more information. The Chiropractic techniques used in our clinic are many and varied, including Diversified, SOT or Sacro-Occipital Technic, Gonstead, Drop Piece, Activator and NET (Neuro-Emotional Technique). All patients are taught individualised stretches and exercises to improve and maintain their long term results. Please see our section What to expect during my Chiropractic Treatment for an overview of the procedures we use.

The clinic prinicpal at Synergy is Allan Kalamir, a PhD research Chiropractor at the department of Health and Chiropractic at Macquarie University. His doctoral research thesis is on Chiropractic treatment for Temporomandibular Disorders (Jaw problems). He has presented his research findings at several National and International conferences, and has published his research in international peer reviewed clinical journals. He works closely with several local dentists and medical practitioners, who are aware of his expertise in the conservative management of TMD (temporomandibular disorder). The chiropractic associate at the clinic is Brian Borbe, also a Macquarie University graduate. His involvement in treating athletes at sporting events such as the World Masters and Iron Man competitions makes him a valuable asset to the clinic.

Acupuncture

While acupuncture is still considered an alternative therapy and lacks much of the evidence base required for general acceptance by modern science, empirical reports suggest it may be of benefit in the treatment of severe pain. It was therefore introduced into the centre as an adjunct to the more conventional treatments already established. For those wishing to try Acupuncture, safety and hygiene are of the utmost importance. We use only the best quality Seirin Japanese Stainless steel needles, that are Gamma radiated sterile. All needles are disposed of and never reused, ensuring the highest standards of safety to our patients. For those who don't like needles, we also have electro-acupuncture (without needles), as well as cupping and magnet techniques.

Massage

Busy people living a stressful modern lifestyle are discovering that massage can help enhance their performance and relieve the aches and pains of stiff tired muscles. We can offer you both the deep tissue, remedial style of massage as well as the less heavy styles such as Swedish and Aromatherapy for those that need relaxation rather than therapy.
